Overview
This itinerary combines Mexico City museums, Frida Kahlo’s home, Xochimilco, Teotihuacán, tacos and lucha libre with the deeply atmospheric Day of the Dead traditions of Morelia and Pátzcuaro.
Itinerary
9 days
Day 1
Mexico City’s Castle – Day of the Dead Parade
Visit National Palace, Zócalo, Metropolitan Cathedral, Postal Palace, Opera House, Anthropology Museum and Chapultepec Castle.
Day 2
Mexico City – Frida Kahlo’s Home – Xochimilco
Visit Coyoacán, buy local handcrafts, visit Frida Kahlo’s house, shop for sugar skulls in Xochimilco and take a boat ride.
Day 3
Ancient and Modern Mexico – Teotihuacán – Tacos and Lucha Libre
Visit Teotihuacán, try tacos al pastor and attend Mexican wrestling on selected days.
Day 4
Mexico City – Peña de Bernal – Querétaro
Depart to Peña de Bernal, continue to Querétaro, visit and overnight.
Day 5
Querétaro – San Miguel de Allende – Morelia
Visit San Miguel de Allende and the Santuario de Atotonilco, then continue to Morelia.
Day 6
Morelia City
City tour of Morelia historic centre, Tarascan fountain and handcraft centre.
Day 7
Morelia – Pátzcuaro
Visit Pátzcuaro village and take a night tour to Ihuatzio, Lake Pátzcuaro, Pacanda Island and local cemeteries.
Day 8
Pátzcuaro
Visit Quiroga, Tzintzuntzan, Zirahuen and Santa Clara del Cobre.
Day 9
Pátzcuaro – Departure
Transfer to the nearest airport for the flight home.
