Overview
This itinerary explores Indigenous heritage across Mexico City, Puebla, Cuetzalan, El Tajín, Papantla, Coatepec, Veracruz, Oaxaca and the Sierra Norte, highlighting Nahua, Totonac and Zapotec cultures.
Itinerary
11 days
Day 1
Mexico City – Xochimilco
Nahua heritage introduction, Mexico City Historic Centre, Xochimilco trajinera ride and local market.
Day 2
Mexico City – Puebla
Visit Cholula, the Great Pyramid, the church of Nuestra Señora de los Remedios, Puebla Cathedral, Rosario Chapel and Library.
Day 3
Puebla – Cuetzalan Magic Town
Transfer to Cuetzalan Magic Town and the hotel.
Day 4
Cuetzalan – El Tajín – Papantla
Visit El Tajín archaeological site and continue to Papantla, known for vanilla and the Voladores de Papantla.
Day 5
Papantla – Coatepec
Travel to Coatepec, a Magic Town, and enjoy coffee tasting at a coffee estate.
Day 6
Coatepec – Veracruz
Visit Veracruz, walk the main square and see the important port.
Day 7
Veracruz – Tehuacán – Oaxaca
Stop in Tehuacán, visit the Municipal Palace and continue to Oaxaca.
Day 8
Oaxaca – Sierra Norte
Visit Tlacolula market and Teotitlán del Valle, then continue to Latuvi for a community cabin overnight.
Day 9
Sierra Norte
Hiking tour to El Molcajete waterfall, with regional agriculture, trout farm and forest trail.
Day 10
Sierra Norte – Oaxaca
Return to Oaxaca via the Mezcal route and visit Plaza de la Constitución, Government Palace, Cathedral, kiosk and Santo Domingo.
Day 11
Oaxaca – Departure
Transfer to the airport for the flight home.
