A photography-focused journey through Chihuahua, Basaseachic Waterfall, Creel, Divisadero, the Copper Canyon and El Fuerte.
Overview
This photographic route follows some of northern Mexico’s most dramatic landscapes, from the waterfalls of Basaseachic to Tarahumara communities, Arareko Lake, the Valley of the Monks and the famous CHEPE train through the Copper Canyon.
Itinerary
6 days
Day 1
Arrival – Chihuahua
Arrive in Chihuahua, receive assistance and transfer to the hotel.
Overnight in Chihuahua.
Day 2
Chihuahua – Basaseachic Waterfall – Creel
Depart to Basaseachic Waterfall, home to two of Mexico’s highest waterfalls: Piedra Volada and Basaseachic.
Continue to Creel for the night.
Optional — Best visited during the rainy season
Day 3
Creel
Visit the community of Cusárare.
Continue to the Valley of the Monks, known as Gonogochi or “place of giants,” and visit an inhabited cave in San Ignacio.
Visit Tarahumara communities, admire local arts and crafts, then visit Arareko Lake and San Ignacio Mission.
Day 4
Creel – Divisadero
Morning walk through Creel village, with time around the tree-lined Plaza de Armas and Cristo Rey Church.
Depart to Divisadero aboard the CHEPE train. Visit the three canyons and Piedra Volada.
Overnight in Divisadero.
Day 5
Divisadero – El Fuerte
Depart aboard the CHEPE train to El Fuerte, a sunny colonial town.
Overnight in El Fuerte.
Day 6
El Fuerte – Departure
Transfer to the airport for a connecting flight to Mexico City and onward flight home.
